Small things are cute

November 10, 2011 | 5 comments

Small things really are cute, aren’t they? Like, squirrels, puppies, kittens, baby Pooh and TY Beanie Babies! And, if I may, miniature sweets are very cute too!

This week I tried making items that are significantly smaller than the 1:2 scale that I’m used to work on. Of course, I made 1:6 scale sweets (for my dolls) when I started playing with clay, and 1:3 and 1:4 scale items for The Doll Affair. But what fuelled my motivation was I saw some miniature sweets made into cute ear studs and pinky rings, and I thought I absolutely must have that! But alas, I’m saving up to pay for this blog, so I sat down in my work area and started working.

Small macaron shells. At first I was just trying to use a coloured clay straight out of the packet, but along the way I added all kinds of other clay, so that is why you see purple of different shades here. These are 1:3 scale at best, I believe? The only reference I have to model doll-sized creations after is a 1:3 scale BJD hand, but even so it is too small.

Work in progress #2

(for the lack of a better title, sigh)

If anyone was complaining about my blog and the lack of updates, that person would be me. I was always wanting to get something out to update this blog with, but something from that huge furry monster in that corner called real life always had things wanted from me. So you know, I push back updates for days, weeks, even months.

But let us forget all that gloomy stuff. We all know what we want to see: more clay creations!

Few days back I mixed up a concoction of Modena, Hearty Soft and some water and piped these little darlings on my new non-stick silicone mat. You remember my butter cookies? I had a hard time with those nibblets on parchment paper, because the paper wouldn’t stay flat, creating on the backs of my cookies much wrinkles and tiny wave-like patterns. So I went shopping for a baking mat. I couldn’t find teflon mats (I heard that is good stuff), but I think silicone mats are good as they are. No use buying expensive stuff for crafting.

Old and new

September 27, 2011 | 2 comments

Hello guys! (^_^) I’m sure you have noticed by now, that my blog just got a mini makeover! I adjusted the width of the content area because from now on, I’ll be sharing with you larger images. More eye candy, less chatter! (…is what I want to say, but I tend to ramble on about useless things… like this.) I also changed the title font because the old font was starting to get on my nerves (~_~”)
So if anything doesn’t look right for you, let me know! I’m sure there are some kinks in my blog theme that need some ironing!

Anyway, I’d been working on some fruits for the past two weeks (more like I finished making them in a day but forgot to paint them for two weeks) and just yesterday I finally finished them. I think I really improved a lot in making these:

Strawberries. I studied the real ones so hard I almost got a brain haemorrhage (of course, I kid) But I think my efforts paid off, because when I see the strawberries I made from some time back, I cringe in disgust. :P I have comparison pictures! Continue reading…

Work in progress #1

(Sorry for the lack of creativity in the title, I just didn’t know how to name this post otherwise!)

Ahem, I’ve been thinking that this blog lacks pretty much pictures of my clay creations since all I’ve been doing are tutorials, reviews, tips and tricks. How come you never ask to see what I’ve been up to? (Just joking. XD)

Anyway, right after TDA I’ve been on a frenzy, working on new stuff. You can actually see some of it on my Etsy (click the Shop word at the top). Here are some of the things that are in progress:

strawberry overdose

Strawberry millefeuille. I wanted to quickly use up all my strawberries so I could make new ones. That’s too much strawberries for a pastry, don’t you think? :D
